Oock heeft den selven Vermander, een uytleggingh op de Metamorphosis of herscheppingh van Ovidius gemaeckt, die mede tot het verstant der Poëtische fabulen dienen konnen, ten eynde men sich daer na in het ordineeren van sijne inventien, niet onverstandigh aenstelle, maer die schicke naer de algemeene uytleggers van dusdanige inventien; ende oock om die by dese of gene voorvallen geestigh ende geleerdelijck toe te passen.

[D'après DE LAIRESSE 1787, p. 286:] Le genre noble ou [NDR : la peinture] antique n’est point circonscrit dans des bornes limitées; mais peut tout embrasser: l’histoire ancienne, tant sacrée que profane, la fable, ainsi que l’allégorie spirituelle & morale sont de son ressort; de sorte qu’il comprend le présent, le passé & l’avenir, qu’il doit rendre d’une manière fixe & invariable. Le genre moderne ou familier n’est pas libre dans son choix & se trouve d’ailleurs renfermé dans des limites fort bornés, puisqu’il ne peut servir qu’à représenter les choses actuelles, & cela même encore d’une manière incertaine & sujette à des variations continuelles. Le passé & l’avenir ne sont point en sa puissance, non plus que l’histoire, la fable & l’allégorie, tant poétique que philosophique & morale.
